Police and show of shame in Imo

It is unfortunate that despite all that Government is doing to improve the image of police, the officers and men continue to disgrace the law enforcement Agency.

Last Friday, at about 12.30am, a young man driving a camry car nearly hit the newly expanded Orlu/ Bank road round- about and somersaulted over two times, without sustaining even a scratch.

Popular side who was returning from a religious outing that hour, with other spirited individuals ran to the aid of the young man, who was still confused and surprised how he survived, when popular side reached the spot suddenly, a police van with Rescue “Mission” inscription appeared from no where, and ordered that the young accident victim should follow them immediately for driving recklessly

This angered the crowed who wondered why the police would not even ask how the accident victim was faring, but only was after arresting the confused victim, and in the process extorted him.

The crowd got infuriated and resisted the police who saw that the irate crowd was fuming, and drove off.

Police indeed, is your friend my foot!

Sam Daddy’s Love for “Taliban” Journalists

One politician in Imo State who has persistently shown love, care and concern to journalists in Imo State is the member representing Ikeduru Imo State  constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly Chief Dr Samuel Anyanwu. Sam Daddy, as he is fondly called, is the journalists’ delight. Last weekend Sam Daddy was at his best to do what he knows how to do; having nice movements with journalists. Right from his days as a transition committee chair man of Ikeduru LGA and Executive chairman, Sam daddy was always been journalists’ delight. During his first tenure in the House, newsmen also had nice moments as he always played host to them. However, one distinguishing aspect of the warm felicitation was that the lawmaker always associated with the crack newsmen in the State a distinct group known as the Taliban’s. The Taliban’s were progressive, fearless and instructive pen pushers that have gone through the thick and thin of the writing business. Last weekend at his palatial private residence in Works Layout, Sam Daddy treated journalists to a sumptuous New Year bash.

Apart from the State Assembly correspondents’ corps, who is his first family, some senior journalists of the “Taliban” stock were there. From Horn Publisher Bright Chimezie to Newspoint and Trumpeta co-publishers, Lambert Ojukwu and Kelechi Mejuobi. Others who have had strong relationship with Sam Daddy in the past and continued till date includes another co-publisher of Trumpeta, Gerry Ogu, Val Okara of the Sun and Guardian’s Charles Ogubuaja. It was a kind of reunion of the good old days of the job as the aforementioned press dudes relished the gathering alongside others with delicious packages and exotic wines and spirits.

Hon Ekwebelem And Radio Message

In view of the weak security network in the State, many high profile persons especially politicians have devised other methods to protect themselves. One person who is not left out in the new found private security arrangement is the member representing Onuimo State constituency in the Imo State House Assembly, Hon Robertson Ekwebelem. Apart from using siren fitted 4-wheel drive jeep as pilot car, the Okwelle-born Lawmaker uses transmission radio. It is common to see him in the Assembly complex clutching the industrial radio used for security and other purposes.

In most cases, Hon Ekwebelem will use it to communicate with his aides and drivers to know situation report. Popular Side will not be surprised if other lawmakers join the radio love, after all using siren- fitted jeeps as pilot vehicle is common among the State lawmakers. Who does not fear kidnappers and assassins as they seem to have taken over Imo State with helpless and defenseless citizens falling victim?
