As the 2015 general election draws closer everyday, the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is not leaving any stone unturned, as he does not want to be taken unaware.
In preparation for the battles ahead, Okorocha has appointed Dr Ifeanyi Nwachukwu the Director of “One Man, One Vote Project”.
Sources said the “Project” is the platform under which Okorocha will pursue his 2015 political ambition, be it at the Presidential level of Governorship.
The Governor while inaugurating the Project charged Nwachukwu to give it all it takes to get to the entire grassroots of Imo State.
Included in the “One Man, One Vote Project” are all the members of the Community Government Council, CGC in the state, which covers all the autonomous Communities in Imo.
Dr Nwachukwu, the present Commissioner for Public Utilities in the state, who heads the project, is said to be a young man, who can traverse the entire nook and cranny of the state to educate the people on the need for the electorate to vote and protect their ballots.
Trumpeta learnt that Okorocha used the Oguta LGA re-run election to test the waters, and has realized that for elections to reflect its true out-come, the electorate must protect their votes.
It was learnt that the “One Man, One Vote” slogan and idea, is the strategy of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Trumpeta was informed that APC had instructed all its Governors to launch the project immediately to begin sensitizing the populace before 2015 election commences.
It was said that the project paid off in Edo State, where Governor Adams Oshomole used the strategy to cage the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP during his second term election last year.
Already, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State is said to have launched the same project some months ago. There is the rumour that Amaechi may soon join APC.
Speaking to Trumpeta in Owerri, some politicians in the state said it was a good omen, if the votes cast by electorate would be allowed to count.
Dr Johnson Amaechi, however, said that Okorocha who is preaching “One Man, One Vote”, will still not allow that to prevail during the election, as according to him, incumbents hardly allow free election if it is working against them.
“Did Okorocha win in a free and fair election in 2011? If not for Amourd Cars and Soldiers. But I know that PDP also rigged. But Okorocha over rigged them by employing the services of the military” Dr Amaechi said.
Chief Abel Nwofor said, “2015 will shock many politicians as the masses have learnt their lessons that it is better to protect their votes and die, than starve to death at home, while politicians share our collective wealth in Owerri and Abuja.”
