Top politician and PDP top notcher in Imo State, Nze Ignatius Umunna, has maintained that he will never be intimidated over his scathing remarks where he lambasted the Imo PDP executive led by Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) for poor performance.
Umunna, who served as Secretary to Imo State Government during the reign of Ex Governor Achike Udenwa, had in an exclusive interview with Trumpeta weeks ago echoed his grievances against the present set up of Imo PDP.
He told newsmen at his Owerri residence that since he granted the interview, he has been receiving calls and text messages from faceless persons, including Chief Osita Nwaneri who has personally taken it upon himself to malign him.
Umunna maintained that he will not be deterred or intimidated by those who are opposed to his conviction, since he based his pronouncements on the truth. He added that for PDP to succeed in 2015, it must call itself to order to avoid the anguish it suffered in 2011.
He said “I will never be intimidated because I am saying the truth that will benefit everyone in Imo PDP and the country at large”. On the current crisis rocking the party at the national level, he said that the aggrieved Governors in the party are only fighting for what he described as egocentric satisfaction, rather than seeking for Justice and equity in the party.
On the controversy of zoning of governorship seat, he backed the quest for Owerri zone to produce the next governor of the state in the spirit of rotation, stating that it will be in line with the tenets of equity since Orlu and Okigwe Zones have occupied the governorship at one time or the other.
Umunna, however, added a proviso by saying that in negligence to equity, Okigwe Zone should also be considered and in such consideration, the governorship slot should be given to Senator Ifeanyi Araraume who was politically maltreated.
In his assessment of past and present administrations in Imo State, Umunna said such assessment and comparison should be based on human, material, economic developments achieved and actualized by such administrations.
He chided the Okorocha administration for practicing what he called “philosophy of a dreamer” anchored on street shows rather than focusing on effective governance.
