As the countdown to the commencement of the 7th Owelle mock – nations Cup draws near, the qualifying games to the main event kick started on Wednesday at theOrjiPrimary School.
Moroccoplayed out a goalless draw with their fellow 2011 debutantsCongoin a qualifying game to determine which teams that will be joining the rest of the 16 teams in the group stage of the competition.
Speaking to ‘Imo Trumpeta’, the LOC chairman of the tournament, Mr Ray Ebede, Pa to the SA on sports, expressed some level of satisfaction on the performance of the two teams considering that the last time they both featured in the nations Cup, they lost all their games.
He said “We are looking for teams that will bring strong and competitive opposition to the other teams so that the fans will not be disappointed when they come to watch”. Ebede said.
LibyaandNamibiawere billed to lock horns against each other on Thursday in the second game of the qualifiers. Four countries will be picked at the end of the qualifiers to join the 16 teams already qualified for a 20 team tournament.
The Owelle mock – Nations cup is organized by the office of the SA on sports to the Governor, Amb. Kanu Nwankwo.
