One of Nigeria’s foremost international footballers now into football management, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, has extended support to the Imo State Football Association, Imo FA.
Ekwueme, a renowned football promoter in the morning of Wednesday, April 8,2026, paid a scheduled visit to the Imo FA office at the Dan Anyiam Stadium,Owerri.
Accompanied by other football stakeholders in the state, Ekwueme met with the Imo FA Board Members led by Barr Ifeanyi Dike, where he doled out match balls and other vital football equipmen worth a fortune.
Speaking at the event, an elated Ekwueme highlighted what motivated him to extend such kind gestures to the state FA adding that the giant strides Imo FA recorded in recent times under the leadership of Barr Dike calls for more support and patronage.
Ekwueme further expressed that his teams shall be part of Imo FA Federation Cup next season adding that the number of teams involved this year is heartwarming and indication that the football house in Imo provides leveling playing ground for teams to participate and excel.
He urged the Imo FA not to relent in their efforts at making the state great again through football.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the Board, Imo FA Chairman, Barr Dike expressed happiness and joy for the patronage.
Barr Dike described Ekwueme as not just an ex international, football administrator and coach but a philanthropist who remembers his roots and always in a mood to give back to the society he comes from.
He assured Ekwueme and those who came with him that the donations are tonic fibres that would fire the Imo FA to higher heights as the items would be judiciously put into use.
Barr Dike used the opportunity to beckon on the Imo State Government, cooperate entities and private business operators with capacity to support the Imo FA to always identify with the football house in Imo in all engagements.
Barr Dike further opined that involvement of youths in football could be the needed panacea to curb criminal activities in some parts of the state.
Present at the event are the Vice Chairman of Imo FA, Chief Sylvanus Obasi, Chairman of Technical Committee, Chief Charles Nnadi. Other board members were Mr Casmir Mbachu, Mrs Angela Akpolu and Ms Jennifer Anusiem.
