Residents of World Bank, Imo Housing and Site and Services, New Owerri, Imo State in the early hours of yesterday stormed Enugu Electricity Development Company. EEDC office located along PortHarcourt Road Owerri to protest against exploitation, extortion and total blackout in the area.
According to the aggrieved customers, EEDC staff have not been fair to them.
“For a long time we have been in total darkness yet the officials of EEDC collect money from us as electricity bill every month. The EEDC officials have defrauded us”, the aggrieved people shouted.
The demonstrators blocked the entrance gate to the Company to show their grievances and drive home their demand.
Following the commotion caused by the demonstrators, the management invited police for protection.
All efforts made to see the overall boss of EEDC proved abortive as at the time of filing this report. Few of the EEDC staff who spoke to our reporter under strict anonymity denied all the accusations.
They described the action of the protesters as barbaric, adding that the demonstrators have no right to lock the entrance gate thereby preventing people from coming inside to do transactions.
