Nigeriahas been drawn to play in group B of the Owelle mock – Nations cup billed to kick – start on Sunday the 26th at theOjiPrimary School.
According to the draws released by the organizers of the annual event,Nigeriawill trade tackles withTogo,South Africa, Burkina – Faso and new – comersMauritaniafor a place in the quarter final stage.
Nigeriawon the maiden edition of the tournament seven (7) years ago with players like Kanu Nwankwo, Mobi Oparaku and Uche Oguchi now with Heartland FC.
Tunisia,CameroonandKenyaare the three other countries that have won the cup in the past 7 years.
Four new teams,Mauritania,BeninRepublic,SudanandLibyaqualified to join the 16 teams of last year in a 20 team tournament divided into 4 –groups of 5 – countries in a group.
The chairman of the local organizing committee (LOC) Mr. Raymond Ebede stated thatCongocould not make it to the finals this year and that all the teams that qualified were certified by the technical committee. He said the teams all have good teams that will continue to play good football for the spectators.
Kenyawon the last edition by beating Burkina-faso 2 – 0 in that final that was graced by His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and Amb. Kanu Nwankwo the SA on sports to the Governor.
