Former Tunisian champions, Etoile du Sahel have been thrown out of the CAF Champions League after disciplinary committee of the competition found their fans guilty of pitch invasion, missile throwing and the release of fire crackers during their game against Esperance also ofTunisiaon August 19.
In disqualifying the team, the CAF displinary committee quoted Article 7 paragraph 6 of the rules governing the tournament. “If the referee is forced to stop the match before the end of the regular time because of invasion of the field or aggression against the visiting team, the host team shall be eliminated from the competition without prejudice to the sanctions existing in the regulations”.
All of Etoiles matches have now been cancelled and the table redrawn with Esperance and Nigeria’s Sunshine stars both sharing six points on top of the log while Algeria’s Aso Chief have no points.
