Following the fear of the dreaded Coronavirus disease, Trumpeta learnt that Mortuaries in Imo State are now over-flowing with Dead Bodies and therefore over-stretching the facilities.
Trumpeta learnt that with the fear of contacting coronavirus through heavy gatherings, relations in Imo State have refused to give burials their loved ones until the scourge is over.
But when the coronavirus will go away is another problem, while dead people are packed in the Mortuaries waiting for the right time for the burials.
Trumpeta learnt that because Igbos sees burials as a ceremony where status symbol is the main thing, none of those whose relatives died are ready to give them simple burials with a few people in attendance.
Speaking to our Reporter, a Mortuary attendant told that nearly all the mortuaries in Imo are full with dead bodies.
He told Trumpeta that he knew because they have an Association through which they reach other, saying that even though it is for their own advantage since when dead bodies are kept for a longer time, they attracts more money, but the trouble is that their facilities are overstretched.
“Everywhere is full. Even the floors are filled with dead bodies. How I wish people will come and collect their dead relatives” the Attendant told Trumpeta.
Meanwhile, many who spoke to our Reporters said that the Covid-19 saga has opened a lot of issues, including on the matter of spending heavily by Ndigbo to burial their relatives.
“That is the only way I like Muslims. The moment a person is confirmed dead, he or she is buried the next hour. But in Igbo land they keep it for days or months. Sale lands and property for a show-stopping burial. That is bad” Chief Opara said.
