Ihiagwa Community really showed their intention to cart away the trophy donated by their kinsman Hon Obulimba Innocent Eke with a hard fought victory over Avu on Wednesday at the Orogwe centre. The annual competition which is sponsored by the member representing Owerri –west local government area in the state house of Assembly is designed to identify footballing talents in the 18 communities that are taking part in the second edition. Reacting to their victory after the game, Ihiagwa team Coach, Mr Timothy expressed his joy over his boys’ composure during the game especially in the second half when Avu team raised the tempo of their game. He further revealed that the only ambition at the back their mind is to win the 2013 edition of the Obulimba Cup not just because that the donor hails from Ihiagwa but to prove that Ihiagwa has arrays of talents that can play in any league. He also praised the fighting spirit of the Avu team which actually helped them to keep the score line at 1-0. Meanwhile, at other venues, Umuoma played a goalless draw with Ohii at the Avu center while Irete defeated Emeabiam 2-1 at the Police Training Field in Umuoma-Nekede. Speaking to Imo Trumpeta, the co-coordinator in charge of Orogwe centre, Pastor Ukachukwu Nwachukwu thanked Obulumba for organizing such competition which will not just help to identify talents but also help to check youth’s restiveness in all the communities of Owerri-west LGA. He then urged all the participating communities, especially the youths, to ensure that the championship is used to harness the hospitality that the Owerri-west is known for believing that with people like Obulimba and the Governor Chief Rochas Okorocha, Imo can be rescued.
