Confusion in Imo APC over Party’s Candidates for Okigwe Zone, Okigwe North Fed Constituency
…Araraume, Ndubueze Awaits Final List, As Onuoha May Edge Out Agasu
Weeks after concluding primaries of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for elective positions, the actual candidates who won the primaries and entitled to fly the party’s flag ahead of the 2027 election are yet to be clear.
Trumpeta learnt that despite concluding the primaries and brandishing names as candidates, palpable fear is reigning in the party’s fold over uncomfirmed reports that fresh names have appeared.
At the end of the primaries, the party in Imo State announced names of candidates for various positions.
Moments the euphoria from the various winning camps died, this newspaper has been informed that fresh names are making rounds in the party’s national office in Abuja as the eventual winners and qualified for the election in 2027.
More disturbing is the case of Imo North Senatorial Zone where the names of two contestants; Senator Ifeanyi Ararume and the incumbent, Senator Pat Ndubueze.
At the end of the exercise in Imo State, a publication of the APC, Imo State chapter through the spokesperson, Jones Onwuasoanya announced Ndubueze as winners. However, findings by Trumpeta learnt that the name of Araraume, a two-time Senator of the Zone is being brandished as the winner.
The development has instituted confusion in the fold of Imo APC especially those of Imo North zone who are confused of the actual party’s candidate.
Though, the party in Imo has affirmed Ndubueze as winner but Araraume’s name kept coming up as the person chosen in Abuja.
Prior to the primaries, three other candidates including Mrs Gloria Akobundu and Longers Anyanwu who had picked party forms were reported to have stepped down leaving only Araraume and Ndubueze. Before the event, pictures of Araraume and Uzodimma with billionaire business man Chief Tony Chukwu appeared in the social media suggesting negotiations on who takes the ticket. Details of what transpired could not be obtained therefore causing more confusion to the party on who got the ticket.
Similarly, confusion has engulfed the party in Okigwe North Federal Constituency comprising Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs.
Initial reports have it that Uchenna Agasu from Onuimo LGA defeated incumbent, Miriam Onuoha to covet the party’s ticket.
But recent events in Abuja suggest that Onuoha has bounced back to recapture the ticket from Agasu, a newcomer to the scene. The latest development may not be unconnected to protests from other contestants who alleged foul play.
Efforts to reach the party at the headquarters of APC in Abuja by our correspondent in Abuja proved abortive as no officials was willing to comment on the matter as at press time
