Fear Grips Mazi Gburugburu, Ikenga,Others Over Alleged Plot To Deregister APP

…As Court Decides on Matter

The camp of top eggs of APP from Imo state are living in fear over the unknown fate of their principals involved in elective positions in the APP.

As the second day of June this year has been slated for judgement in the deregistration case instituted against it.

Heavyweight politicians from Imo State are using the APP to run for elective positions.

Among them are Chief Chima Amadi, a frontline kingpin of the party said to be interested in the Governorship race but testing the murky waters of politics with the Senate position for Owerri zone.

Others are Hon Ikenga Ikeagwuonu, a popular lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency and member representing Ngor Okpala/Aboh Mbaise Federal Constituency, Hon Mattew Nwagwu. It would be recalled that both national assembly members had resigned from their previous positions to run under APP for a second term.

The court case about deregistration is said to be causing panic in the party as the leadership and members await the outcome of the court case.

Already Ikenga, a top Chieftain of the APP has raised the alarm alleging plot by opposing parties to nail the fortunes of the party with a deregistration plot.

The member representing Ideato South and North Fed Constituency alleged that there were moves to deregister APP by major opposition political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP) and Accord Party, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ugochinyere raised the alarm during a press conference in Abuja, where he warned that any attempt to deregister opposition parties could plunge the country into a political crisis and undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

The federal lawmaker alleged that unnamed political actors were using the courts to target opposition parties in a bid to weaken political competition before the next elections.

He specifically mentioned ADC, APP, Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) as some of the political parties allegedly affected by the suit.

According to him, the alleged move was aimed at preventing opposition candidates from participating effectively in the coming elections.
