The struggle for who takes control of affairs of the Local Government in Imo state took a dangerous dimension in Ohaji/Egbema a Local Government Areas, yesterday morning when suspected cultists attacked the Chairmen and Councillors at the council premises.

An eye witness at the scene disclosed that after escaping on Wednesday, the TC Chairman Barr Greg Anyanwu resurfaced yesterday with less than 50 armed cultists who barricaded the Council gate at Mmahu and refuses everybody entering into the premises.

Oblivious of the evil machinations of the ousted TC Chairman, the elected chairman Hon Prince Chinonye Ikegwuruka, councillors, supervisory councillors and their aides went to the council headquarters with the Ohaji Divisional headquarters and Egbema Divisional Police headquarters DPOs and their men.

On reaching the gate, our reporter learnt that the armed hoodlums advised the chairman and others present not to challenge the hoodlums as that may result to casualties.

While they turned their vehicles to leave the gate, the suspected cultists chased the vehicle of the chairman, Prince Ikegwuruka but missed it.  Others like the councillors representing one of the wards (names withheld) and a supervisory councillor was not lucky enough as the rampaging hoodlums attacked and injured them in the process.

The matter is before the Ohaji Divisional Police where the attacked persons have made useful statements as the DPO has promised to report the matter to the state Commissioner of Police for possible reinforcement.
