Kidnapped Deputy State Chairman of the Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Chief Ugochukwu Nnawuihe Wednesday January 22nd escaped from his kidnappers who had held him hostage since Monday.
Also getting free from the gunmen claws was the wife of the Deputy Clerk of Imo State Assembly who was kidnapped on Sunday. Chief Nnawuihe was on Monday kidnapped by a group of young men in the broad day light along Tetlow road Owerri.
According to available information to Trumpeta Newspapers, Chief Nnawuihe was driving along Tetlow road on that fateful Monday when the men in their vehicle double crossed and stopped him. Within seconds, they dragged him into their steaming vehicle and sped off abandoning his own car along the road.
It is further gathered that it was the following day that they started making calls to Chief Nnawuihe’s close associates and friends with demands of huge sums of money running into millions.
But fortunately for Chief Nnawuihe, he found a loophole in their arrangement which gave him the opportunity to escape from their den.
It was learnt that the party Chieftain who was kept in the same dungeon with the woman wriggle out and escaped when the kidnappers went out. On return, the gunmen noticed Nnawuihe’s absence and reportedly concluded to kill the woman. One of them was detailed to take the woman away and kill her. The abductor ferried the woman to a destination with keke. Miraculously, the gun of the kidnapper failed to fire before the wife of the Deputy Clerk ran away and shouted for help near the village to be in Amaigbo, Nwangele LGA.
Her cry attracted the villagers who informed the police.
All efforts by Trumpeta to speak with Nnawuihe on the matter proved abortive as all his lines has remained switched off.
But a close associate of the PDP Deputy State Chairman disclosed that he is currently recuperating in an undisclosed hospital after making himself available to the State Commissioner of Police.
He also suspected that the action could be linked to politics as controversy has trailed the recent announcement of Chief Nnawuihe as the Imo State Deputy Chairman of the PDP.
