Imo Govt Declares War Against Refuse, Prostitution Hawkers On The Run

The move to bring sanity in Imo state have taken another dimension.
Our reporter who moved round the state capital revealed that security agents are on their prowl to arrest commercial sex workers, street hawkers of various kinds, food vendors, owners of shanties and illegal buildings within the state capital.
Addressing journalists at Imo Government House, the commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Hon Prof Okee Okoro hinted that his men have swung into action to protect the environment and keep Imo clean.
According to him this latest move is in line with Imo My Pride Project. He warned that anybody who violates the environmental laws will be prosecuted. With this new arrangement according to the Commissioner it is an offence now to sell pure-water along the streets. He also disclosed that all forms of street trading, road side sales, sex hawking and other related activities have been banned. “Imo has embarked on accelerated city beautification progremme in order to regain its lost glory” he said.
Meanwhile some hawkers in the state have began to relocate elsewhere to avoid being arrested by Government Agents.
Governments of the state have also directed workers at various departments to observe clean up in their offices. From information, we gathered, the commissioner for environment and petroleum have been directed by the governor to carry a routine check at government offices and private establishments to ensure compliance and arrest offender.
