..New Heartland GM yet to Experience Victory
bia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia on Wednesday spoiled what was meant to be a welcome party for the newly appointed General Manager of Heartland FC, Prince Okechukwu Ibeh as they were held by the Naze-Millionairse to a 1 1 draw in a week 15 Glo Npl game at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Prince Ibeh had on resumption of his office urged players of the team to win last Wednesday’s game as a welcome gift for him promising that the financial challenges they have faced in recent times will soon be a thing of the past.
Heartland had lost their first game against Warri Wolves in Warri immediately after the dismissal of the former GM cum Chairman, Chief Fan Ndubuoke who was recently involved in a ghastly auto crash alongside the team co-ordinator Oscar Keke losing their 8 match unbeaten run in the league home and away.
Trouble started for the home side when what looked like a good beautiful goal was rather disallowed by the game’s second assistant referee Musa Garuba for offside only for 12 shirted Ifeanyi Onyeali to put the away team ahead at the 45th minute of the first stanza with a bicycle kick and to make matters worse the heavens opened for a heavy down pour.
Although Heartland returned with more vigor and determination searching for the equalizer but the damage had already been done as the down pour made the playing turf difficult for crispy passes forcing them to waste chance upon chance before the center referee Abubarka Ago (FIFA) awarded a penalty to the home side after ex-Heartland player Sampson Chuky pulled down Bright Ejike down who dusted himself to dispatch the spot kick at the 85th minute for 1 1, a result that has left the team without a victory since the appointment of Prince Ibeh.
Heartland will this weekend travel to Taraba were they will engage another newly promoted side, Taraba Fc who are now coached by Heartland erstwhile gaffer Mbaise born Nduka Ndubuisi at the Jalingo Sports Stadium for a week 16 Glo Npl encounter.
The game was heavily attended by football big wigs in Abia and Imo State including the NNL Chairman and NFF board member who also doubles as Abia Warriors FC Chairman, Emeka Inyama, immediate past Abia State Director of Sports and seasoned football analyst, Ejikeme Ikwunze (Mr Football), Dr EC Chukwuemeka (NRA South-East zonal co-ordinator), Imo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Comrade Kenneth Emelu, Imo FA Chairman and CAF member, Chief Amanze Uchegbulam, Heartland new GM, Okey Ibeh and ACP

World Cup – Suarez In Race To Make Brazil After Shock Surgery
Luis Suarez faces a race to be fit for the World Cup finals in Brazil after it was revealed the striker requires surgery following a knee injury.
The Liverpool forward will go under the knife on Thursday morning after an MRI revealed a meniscus injury in his knee, suffered in training with the national team.
According to reports, the Uruguayan national team medical staff can see no other alternative than to send Suarez for an operation even though the World Cup gets under way in three weeks’ time.
Suarez will undergo keyhole surgery early on Thursday.
Recovery time tends to vary from player to player, but typically varies from two to six weeks, which could put the Uruguayan’s World Cup participation in doubt.
The Uruguay national team are confident that their talisman will be fit to play a part in the tournament, but bookies responded by lengthening their odds of escaping from a tough group stage – which includes England, Italy and Costa Rica – to 1/2.
Uruguay play Costa Rica on June 14th, England five days later on the 19th, then face a potentially crucial final group stage match against Italy on June 24th.
It seems that even if Suarez recovers in time, he will certainly be short of match fitness.
That leaves Uruguay in trouble since their other top striker, Edinson Cavani, has suffered a severe drop-off in form since going through a messy divorce in January.
Suarez netted 31 league goals for Premier League runners-up Liverpool this season and was expected to be one of the stars in Brazil, though Uruguay’s chances of progressing out of a group that includes England, Italy and Costa Rica will take a significant hit if he is unable to return to full fitness.
