Imo Sports Council Partners FA for Grass Root Football Development

The Imo State Sports Council has formed a healthy partnership with the State Football Federation with the purpose of developing football talents especially at the grass root level.
This development was disclosed during a press briefing for the Imo State Football Association Youth Soccer League opening ceremony at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Thursday Juli 31.
Speaking during the brief the council Principal Officer, Capt. Christain Ugochukwu Ibekwe informed that he is the happiest man with the innovation by the FA to organize such a program for our youths especially during their holyday period pointing out that it is one of his cardinal points when he assumed office.
Capt Ibekwe who commended the FA board ably led by their chairman, Chief Amanze Uchegbulam also revealed that his council has been touring the Local Government Areas to observe and pick players for the future adding that very soon there will be mini sports festivals at the LGAs tagged CGC games while in a month time the Rescue Mission Festival will take place at the State which will help to identify and pull together talented athletes that will represent the State at the National Sports Festival in Calabar later this year as well as replace the aging athletes.
In an opening remark, the Imo State Football Association Vice-Chairman, Chief Emma Ochiaga who was standing in for the chairman, Chief Amanze stated that the present board has thought wise to establish the IFAYSL in other help harmonize all the academies in the state as well as keep the youths busy and away from social vices with the view of catching them young for future U-13, 15 national and international competitions.
The FA technical chairman, Mr Sunny Opara later informed the press on the events of the opening ceremony which later took place at the DAN Anyiam as 27 teams participated in a match past before their screening exercise.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian U-20 Female Handball team won their first match at the African Handball Championship taking place in Togo where they defeated host team 28 17 with Imo State born Ezinne scored 8 goals in the game.
According to reports reaching Trumpeta sports desk, 7 teams namely Togo (host), Nigeria (defending champion), Niger, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin Rep and Burkina Faso are participating in the two week event.
With their first game already in the kitty, the nation’s U-20 team will now focus their attention to the next game against Niger Rep today by 4pm Nigerian time as they hope to defend their crown an excited Ezinne informed.
