As calls and rage continued to dominate the clamour for the removal of the big round about located at IMSU junction, Owerri, Imo State another tragedy struck again yesterday as one of the contractors, a Korean, handling the project, fell from the bamboo made as make shift Scalf Folder for the construction work, in the process, the foreigner reportedly fractured his waist and wrist. One Yahuze Sunday, a foreman working with him, stated that the incident occurred at about 1:30pm, as a result of the weakness of the bamboo sticks that were used in the construction of the scalf folder.
Another eye witness report by Imo Civil Guard who was on duty when the incident happened disclosed that the Korean contractor, Mr. Kahn fell from the bamboo Scalf Folder when he was climbing around it and marking spots where works needed to be done on the big structure. According to her, the bamboo woods have duly over stayed given that the contract has lasted which consequently have left the bamboo woods to the mercy of the rains and the sun. According to Civil Defence Operative, the bamboo woods have become so wet and weak that they are now death traps for anyone climbing them.
Given her opinion, she called on the government for speedy completion of the roundabout project, or better still the removal/replacement of the bamboo made Scalf Folder with the modern day mental Scar Folder which defies both the rains and the sun. As at the time of filing this report, Mr. Kahn had been taken to a nearby hospital in town whose name was not disclosed to our Reporter by his driver. The condition of the Korean was said to in bad state even as his survival depends on the level of medical attention to be given to him.
It will be recalled that it was the third time in the series of tragedies that has happened at the popular IMSU junction since the month of September. On the 10th of September this year, Dr. Kelechi Okapalaeke , a onetime information and strategy commissioner under governor Ikedi Ohakim described his near death situation “as an intent to kill…” Barely twenty four hours after Dr. Okpalaeke escaped death, Imolites bemoaned a real death situation as a Mack Trailer coming from Okigwe lost control and ran into a shop adjacent to the same big roundabout trapping two people under it for more than twenty four hours as there were no rescue equipments from Men of the Road Safety, Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, and Imo Civil Guard.
