The sale of some government owned hospitals in Imo state has been condemned and described as barbaric by the national leadership of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) who spoke through the Deputy Nat President of the Union, Comrd S.A Osuji and the Nat president of Tertiary Health Institution Consultative Forum Comrd Chinedu Nwobodo.

Okorocha’s sale of the hospitals was condemned in its entirety by the two national Exco- members. Stating that health care is a social service therefore should not be qualified in monetary terms.

They went for them to argue that the act is a one way passport to eternity for majority of Imo citizen who will now find it difficult afford the service of a profit oriented hospital “we all know that the little charged patients in government hospital are difficult for them to pay considering the harsh economic situation of the country, then what will become of them now that the hospitals are for profit maximization – Comrd Osuji asked.

It was advised that Okorocha should redress that issue before people start dieing at random for lack of medical expenses. He was also advised to consult well before diving into issue like the commercialization of health sector.

Comrd Nwobodo, described the action as capitalists oriented and unacceptable for the well being of the citizenship. He also challenged the state health workers and other Labour Unions to rise against the ideal, which he described as anti – people and barbaric.
