Owerri shopping complex located on the popular Douglas Road, Owerri Imo State is now at the captivity of different cult groups as one of the Traders in the market who did not want his name in print cried out for police post in the area.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday, the Trader alleged that the cultists have agents inside the market who normally give them information via cell phone calls.
“The cult groups invade the market on daily basis injuring both traders and customers.
We always lose goods worth millions of naira in every operation of the hoodlums. Our customers are no longer patronizing us because of fear”, the Trader lamented.
According to him, “the leadership of the market has met with the executive governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who directed that they should meet the former police Commissioner, Imo Police Command in order to draft proactive measure that would curb the ugly, but every effort proved futile”. The Trader further described the effort of Imo State government to relocate roadside traders to Relief market as a welcome development adding that the purported plan would go a long way to decongest traffic grid lock on Douglas Road.
He recalled the fire outbreak which wreaked havoc in the shopping complex last year, noting that traffic gridlock along Douglas Road could not permit fire service officers to get to the scene on time.
