The State owned Polytechnic, Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo, Imo State is said to be massively excelling as it gets the No 8 position among 150 Polytechnics in Nigeria.
The success story of the campus which started about 30 years ago as a College of Agriculture, had no ranking in the past when compared to contemporaries. According to a popular adage which says that “ A good road calls for a second journey” as well as “A bracelet requires no mirror for clarity could be said to be happening at Imo Poly now which nomenclature changed since 2007.
The school which was established in 1978 as a College of Agriculture began as an ordinary College, but presently under the stewardship of Rev. Fr. Dr. Wence Madu as the Rector in 2011 at the inception of the Rescue Mission administration up till date, many achievements have been recorded in the area of erection of new structures, the renovation, reformation and new ideas which could be obviously seen as a backbone behind the rapid upgrading of the citadel of learning to a Polytechnic.
Sequel to this, the image maker of the Institution, Mr Darlington Oparaocha, yesterday took Trumpeta Newspaper on a facility tour round the school compound where it was observed that since the Rector, a catholic priest, Fr. Wence Madu came on board in 2011, he has given the institution an enviable facelift that anybody who knew the school before now could imagine if it is still the Imo Poly they used to know or another newly erected institution.
Some of the achievements recorded so far included the building, furnishing of new modern administrative block, Chemistry Laboratory, Science Laboratory full equipped, Imo Poly microfinance bank, large hectares of Agricultural Farming alongside Poultry Farms, Modernized Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres, completed male and female hostels while other hostels are under construction. Imo Poly health centre/ clinic with ambulance, Departmental blocks including that of School of Business Administration and Management, Science Laboratory Technology, Business and Financial Management Technology, Engineering Technology, Natural Resource and Environment Technology, Science block while a lot more were refurbished.
Fr. Madu is however said not to be resting on his oars as he is poised to move the polytechnic to greater heights counting on his collaborations to increase the capacities of its workforce via many developmental projects scattered in all the nooks and crannies of the institution for the betterment of the scholars and
