The opposition political parties inImoStateare at each others throat now following the free “donation” the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha made to them yesterday, after the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties CNPP visited the Governor at Government House Owerri.

Our sources said Gov Okorocha invited the parties, under the aegis of CNPP, Imo State Chapter, to rub minds with them on the way forward in Imo.

The meeting which started at about 7pm lasted till the early hours of yesterday and was boycotted by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and All Nigerian Peoples Party ANPP.

Imo Trumpeta learnt that the invitation to the meeting was not formal as a few members of the CNPP, representing the various active political parties in the state, were informed of the meeting through telephone calls.

Those who got the “invitation” made frantic efforts to reach some of the members but only a few were reached before the time of the meeting, following the short notice and the informal route the “invitations” came.

It was learnt that Gov Okorocha appealed to the parties to help him fight opposition behemoth the PDP, pointing out that unless the smaller political parties join hands together to fight PDP, the party will continue to control the politics and wealth ofImoState, to the detriment of other parties.

To show his support to CNPP, Gov Okorocha was said to have doled out a huge sum of money (Amount withheld by us) to the body, which he said they should use part of the money to pay for an office and the rest as “Transport”.

However, when the news of the Okorocha “gift” filtered out yesterday, members of political parties who did not attend the parley insisted that the money was not for only officials of CNPP, but for all political party members in the state.

A source from one of the political parties threatened that hell would let loose if the CNPP “eat” the money alone without sharing it at party levels.

They accused CNPP of sneaking into Government House, without informing their members, stressing that the money would be the beginning of the destruction of CNPP, Imo State Chapter.

A source from CNPP who spoke to Imo Trumpeta acknowledged that they had a meeting with the Governor, but refused to disclose how much they were given.

“It was out of his magnanimity that the Governor gave “Transport” to those who visited him. There is nothing bad about that” the source told our Reporter.
