There are strong indications that the much touted rally civil servants in Imo State are planning to hold in respect of Governor Rochas Okorocha may not hold after all.

Plans for a “Thank You” rally in honour of governor Okorocha had reached advanced stages until nothing concerning it has been heard again.

Instead, the Ministry of Labour, Power and Empowerment has taken over with a Merit Award for the governor.

News had filtered few weeks ago that workers were planning a solidarity rally for Okorocha ahead the APC convention. Trumpeta can recall that following a meeting between the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Sir George Eche and permanent Secretaries, an idea to shore up Okorocha’s popularity through mass rally of workers was conceived.

Arrangements had been concluded for the rally to hold two weeks ago until it was put off after the dress rehearsal of activities. Workers not willing to be part of the exercise were threatened with sack and non-payment of salaries.

The organized labour in the state after receiving signals from headquarters in Abuja not only kicked against the action but also asked the workers to keep away and avoid been used by politicians as a tool for electoral successors.

However, since the end of the convention, nothing has been heard of the Thank You Rally. Rather, the event by the ministry where every worker is forced to attend for the honour on Okorocha may have taken over the earlier planned solidarity rally.
