Even as Tuesday’s reported plot to remove the leadership of the National Assembly failed.

Trumpeta learnt that one of the Senators representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Hope Uzodinma was allegedly involved in the thick of the action on the side of Pro Buhari group.

According to sources at the National Assembly, Abuja, Uzodinma, who recently joined APC from PDP was among the 30 Senators of APC extraction who met behind close doors to perfect a strategy suspected to be part of the plot to remove Senate President and his Deputy, Senator Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremmadu respectively.

Reports have it that part of the plot to impeach both Saraki and Ekweremmadu is to have Senators Mohammed Lawan as new Senate President while Hope Uzodinma, comes in as Deputy President.

The source was of the view that the name of Uzodinma came in because of the need to balance appointment in all the zones.

It was further learnt that since Ekweremmadu is from the South East and the only one from the zone holding ranking position removing him without a replacement from the Igbo land would cause disaffection from Ndi Igbo in the party and Nigeria at large considering earlier complaints of marginalization by the ethnic group.

Uzodinma, the source confirmed, was chosen ahead of other APC senators like Benjamin Uwajumogu and Andy Uba because of his position in the party as a member of the BOT of the party and ranking status.

The senator who joined APC before the congress of the party in May 2018, is also said to be waxing strongly to ensure he gets the position using contacts close to the President, Muhammadu Buhari Uzodinma had of late become a Buhari convert by preaching that the South East should support the incumbent to enable a President of Igbo extraction in 2023.

It would be recalled that masked DSS men took over the entrance into the National Assembly, Abuja, raising speculations that there were plans to impeach Saraki and his Deputy Ekweremmadu over last week defections from the ruling part to PDP.
