Sir

Whither men of God?

Each time I go through the newspapers and magazines, I begin to wonder what is wrong with this generation particularly the anointed men of God.  As the number increases daily, so do they veer into the world of materialism and anchored there.

When I was a child, the then reverend fathers, and reverends comport themselves both in private and in public and were in words and deeds workers in the lord’s vineyard.  All these have changed as contemporary men of God steal in churches undetected.  Some are even arraigned in courts for offences ranging from fraud to adultery.  The bulk of the rotten apples in a barrel of apples come from Pentecostal churches and ministries.

These new generation churches claim to have a solution to every human problem.   They cure the sick, raise the dead, render barren wombs productive, divine the future, prays for exam success and a host of other prodigious accomplishments.

I think their umbrella body the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is incapable of checking the excesses of its members.  I guess not all of them attend its meetings and functions.  But the sooner the Pentecostal Fellowship ofNigeriadoes this, the better for its image and the country.

These churches and ministries introduced the use of loudspeakers in places of worship because they believe that the more noise the more people flock into their churches.

On its part, government should not continue to sit on the fence while the citizens are being hoodwinked and defrauded.  Their central theme is money and not saving souls.  It was once alleged that a pastor of one of these churches slept and made love to his girl friend right in front of the altar during a night vigil.

All I am saying is that multiplicity of churches is killing christianity.  Alongside with this evil is private ownership of churches.
