IMPACT AFRICA NETWORK HONOURS IMO NUJ CHAIRMAN

Mr. Innocent Igwe, was among the award recipients by Impact Africa network, a body that promotes international Human Rights and Peace Resolution. The event held at Sam Mbakwe hall in Concorde Hotel Owerri. Impact Africa Network presented them with the award for their out standing and selfless role in promoting Human Right in their various fields. The theme of the ceremony was “United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its Global Approach”.

 

The Chairman and also an awardee, Hon. Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, in his welcome address, described Imo state as a land that flows with milk and honey. Barr Agwu said that International Human Rights should be respected and that without it, the world would look like a store of rag. Impact Africa Network president, Rt. Rev. Chidiebere Ogbu reminded ordained men of God present at the conference the need to accord couples their human rights in the process of screening them for the church marriage wedding. He regretted that some ordained men of God abuse the International human right by asking couples that wants to marry their genotype and their HIV/AIDS status which he said Article 12 and 16 of Int. Human Rights forbids.

 

Attorney Shaleen Worhnitz, the Director Youth for Human Right, USA/SOUTH Africa and a speaker at the conference said that it is quite unfortunate  that majority of Africans do not know the 30 Human Right Rules and admonished the participants to learn and practice it because it will save a lot of life. She said that knowing it will help fight violent groups like Boko Haram and that the cause of conflict in the 3rd world countries is not valuing the human right Attorney Worhnitz accused USA and other European countries as the major causes of conflict in the third world countries as a result of fighting over oil and other natural resources.

 

The highlight of the conference was the conferment of awards on those that have distinguished themselves on the cause of doing their work to promote Human Rights in Nigeria.

 

Some of the recipients are Sir Innocent Igwe, Sir Donald Ekenta (IBC), Sir Fidelis Onyeneke and Chief Ike Nwosu. In an interview with Sir Innocent Igwe (NUJ Chairman), said that he feels happy been honoured and promised as an ambassador of Impact Africa Network he will enlighten the masses on the need to embrace the international Human Right. He however, regretted that those who should fight and defend it are the abusers.
