Panic has gripped traders along Douglas Road as the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) has started destroying the front entrances to shops they say encroached into the road.
The officials of OCDA were on the Douglas Road version of similar demolition exercise carried out on Wetheral Road recently.
When the Imo Trumpeta visited Douglas Road there was a mild drama and panic as the traders scampered to remove their wares from the road so that they would not be confestecated by the officials.
Most of the traders wore long faces as they complained about the bad market the action of the officials is causing them while others watched helplessly as the front entrances to their shops were destroyed.
When approached, many of them refused to speak, while the officials of OCDA who were busy chasing the traders around did not respond to questions.
