People of Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State have rolled out drums for their lawmaker in the State House of Assembly, Hon Philip Ejiogu.
They celebrated him while he marked his birthday in his Emekuku country home last Friday, September 18, 2020.
It was a fanfare as eulogies were showered on the young lawmaker, who doubles as the House Committee Chairman on Education.
The event commenced with a thanksgiving mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Emekuku, Owerri North LGA, Imo State.
Thereafter, he empowered the widows, by handing over monetary envelopes to the women.
Ejiogu enjoined them to take the opportunity seriously and add to their businesses.
Committee and members of Owerri North Widows Prayer and Empowerment Program were further inaugurated.
Hon. Ejiogu also Commissioned the Nkwo-Emeke Market borehole and convenience facilities he single-handedly built for the traders.
In their address, Evang. Chima Eboms, and Mr. Ifeanyi Oguh, Chairman and Secretary of Nkwo-Emeke Market Traders Association affirmed that Hon. Ejiogu has been a great source of support and help to them in so many ways.
They said the borehole and convenience facilities will help both the traders and customers, in maintaining a healthy and hygienic business atmosphere.
The traders further declared him as the best lawmaker in Imo State whose projects speak volumes.
Commenting, the PDP State scribe, Nze Ray Emeaña commended Philip Ejiogu for the goodwill, adding that so far, he has towed the right steps.
Nze Emeaña pointed out that he is a good ambassador that has remained resolute in the path of being a strong party man, embedded in effective representation and law making since he (Emeaña) left the State Assembly.
Emeaña stated that PDP by Divine Providence will bounce back, saying it is only the party that has the interest of the masses at heart, even after recounting the good projects embarked on by the Emeka Ihedioha led administration.
Hon. Mrs. Charity Obilor (PDP State Woman Leader) lauded Ejiogu for remembering the widows, stressing that he has been doing it before now.
“I have no doubt he will not relent in doing good”.
Delivering his keynote speech, Hon. Philip Ejiogu said the gathering was targeted at fulfilling his campaign promises to the traders at Nkwo-Emeke.
He said as a first timer, it has not been rosy, but would not leave any stone unturned in leaving indelible landmark in Owerri North.
On the widow’s empowerment, he assured to continue the monthly prayer meeting and soft support, during and after his tenure.
He said, “I solemnly and wholeheartedly reassure my good people of Owerri North LGA that this message you people unanimously sent me to the IMHA, I won’t disappoint or turn you people down”.
“About the Widows program, it is something I and my family have been doing for the past five years before I got into politics. I thought it a wise decision to extend it to the entire Owerri North. We pray together as well. With this inauguration, at least monthly, one widow from each Ward or Community will benefit from the program”.
“For the empowerment of the traders, it was genuinely born out of passion, as my own little way of marking my birthday”.
‘Mr. Integrity’ as fondly called revealed that by doing so, he relieved himself from tension and pressure from the promise he made to them during the campaigns.
“Like my brother and colleague rightly said, this is the beginning of projects and empowerments from me, believing God will do it for the greater glory of His name”.
Notable persons present were Sir and Lady Ambrose Ejiogu, Members of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Chika Odionyemma (Founder, Nwakanwa Foundation), Chief Osita Nwaneri, Chief Bob Njemanze, among others.
