Imo Awaits Torch of Unity for National Sports Festival, “Eko games ‘12

          The Torch of Unity which has been travelling round the 36 states of the Nation will on Tuesday 5th November arrive Imo State.

The Zonal co-odinator, South East Zone II, Nguru cntre Mr. Adokie Dans who made this known to ‘Imo Trumpeta’ did reveal that the Torch which is the symbol of unity for the National Sports festival games was to arrive Abia State yesterday Wednesday 31st of October where it was received by his Excellency the Governor of Abia State T.A. Orji (Ochendo) accompanied by the State Commissioner of Sports, the Permanent Secretary and Director of Sports.

Dans further stated that, the Torch will then move on Tuesday next week to Imo state where it is also expected to be received by his Excellency the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha accompanied by the States Sports Commissioner, Permanent Secretary and Director of Sports among other dignitaries.

In a related development, the Nguru Zonal co-odinator expressed his optimism on the chances of the states under his centre, Imo and Abia, to do well at the upcoming National Sports Festival which is hosted by Lagos State tagged “Eko games ‘12”.

He however pointed out that the athletes will need to be motivated very well and put into serious camping at least 3 weeks before the games proper to enable them be at their best.

“ I think the Governors are aware of what is at stake, and with what is on ground I know funds will soon be released to the athletes in both states for proper camping,” Said Dans.

Adokie also took time to appreciate the National Director of Sports, Dr Pat Ekeji who paid his centre and un-schedules visit during the weekend to lift their spirit as he promised them of adequate facilities in the centre at least from December.

“The DG was here to see things on ground himself and he assured the staffs that very soon every of their expectations will be met. He also called on the contractor handling the permanent site for the centre to speed up his work and get it ready by December, “Dans concluded.
