Imo Born University Don Elected Secretary-General Of Igbo Union In USA

Imo State was in a cheering news recently, when an illustrious son of Obowo Local Government Area of the State, based in US, Dr. Sampson Akwafuo was elected the Secretary-General of Igbo union in a State in far away United States of America.

The Igbo Community Association (ICA) of Southern California has elected new executive for the Union.

From the keenly contested election, Dr. Sampson Akwafuo had the massive votes of members to ascend the position of Secretary-General, while Prince Gabe Nwandu was elected the President.

Prince Nwandu, a native of Ngwa land of Abia State, is a seasoned accountant with years of professional experience.

It is of note to state that the University Don, Dr. Sampson Akwafuo is an Assistant Professor of Computational Epidemiology at the California State University. An expert in monitoring and evaluation of joint donor-funded programs, including the UNDP and DFID.

It was learnt that the Igbo Community Association of Southern California, “ICASoCal”, is an umbrella body of individuals and organizations that have their origin with Igbo speaking states of Nigeria.

The non-profit organization under code 501(c) 3 of the United States of America, is exclusively organized for charitable, cultural, religious, educational and scientific purposes.

On the other hand, Southern California, “SoCal”, is a geographic and cultural region that generally captures the southern portion of the U.S. state of California.

It includes the Los Angeles metropolitan area, the second most populous urban area in the US, and other counties such as San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and others.

Further insight to the noble forum clamors for rapid development of communities in Eastern part of Nigeria.

Other objectives involves the following; to educate members and their children about Igbo language and culture, as well as promote the welfare of its members; to unite and foster good relationship between Igbos and members of other host communities in the United States and the world; to promote the social, educational, cultural, and economic advancement of Igboland.
