The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State Chapter has condemned in all ramifications the leadership style of the Gov. Rochas Okorocha led APGA government over certain issues of public interest that include demolition of monumental structures in the State. the party also questioned the rationale behind the armed government security outfit, the government denial of knowledge of the abandoned city gates, disrespect for due process and other issues that are aimed at destroying the history, peace, love and unity in Imo State detonate in less than no time.

Addressing newsmen at the PDP state secretariat Okigwe Road Owerri, the Chairman Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) described Okorocha’s style and approach in destroying all the legacies of his predecessor Dr Ikedi Ohakim which belong to Imo people as their heritage as mindless and uncivilized. In his words, “Why would government whose primary duty it is to preserve and protect the peoples’ heritage be the one destroying or demolishing same?” He used the old government house and the New Face Primary school block at Township School Owerri as examples.

Eze Duruiheoma condemned the vendetta by Okorocha as a political weapon of against the people including traditional rulers who are being denied their undisputed rights for not supporting Okorocha’s Governorship bid.

The State PDP said it was not against government sponsored security outfit, but is disturbed over the high visibility enjoyed by Okorocha’s security outfit (Imo Security Network), and the similarity of their uniform to that of the Nigerian Police Force, (NPF), their access to sophisticated arms and the way the outfit is being used to intimidate innocent Imolites perceived as enemies. He cited the attack on LG Chairmen and councilors as weakness on the Government and infringement on human right.

On the issue of the Owerri city gate which the Okorocha led government is denying knowledge of, Imo PDP described as another evidence of a policy gone awry, maintaining that the APGA Government came into power with no agenda, and is on a mission of vendetta. According to the PDP “we sympathize with the helpless young man (Mayor Owerri Zone) who was made a sacrificial lamb. Imo people demand an apology from this administration that is yet to settle down to governance almost two years after being sworn-in”.

However, the Imo PDP advised the APGA led Imo Government to respect due process by abiding and subjecting itself to the rule of law of the country. By so doing it is not for any person, rather doing itself a lot of favour.

Consequently, the Imo PDP urged all well meaning and progressive people of Imo State to speak out against destruction of the history and heritage of Imo because they do not belong to any governor but a collective patrimony of Imo people.
