Unless rapid response was rendered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Labour Party in Imo State may boycott the upcoming House of Assembly polls.
Information available to Trumpeta has it that the party has threatened to reject entirely any result that may be pronounced from the House of Assembly election slated for March 11, 2023.
Briefing Journalists in Owerri on Monday, the Labour Party Chairman, Dr. Ambrose Onyekwere disclosed of the party’s readiness for elections, but later had a rethink over the activities of the electoral officers in Imo State.
Onyekwere warned that Labour Party will reject any results that would be announced from the outcome of the March 11 State Assembly Poll.
He hinted that the decision came to fore following the high rate of irregularities that were witnessed and recorded in the February 25th, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Imo State.
To this end, he called for the instant removal of the Imo State Resident Electoral Commission, Prof Sylvia Agu, all the EOs, and all the SPOs.
Onyekwere accused the REC of compromising against the wish and votes of the electorate.
He maintained that if she is not removed as Imo REC, Labour Party will vehemently not accept any result that would be announced for Assembly seat.
According to the LP State boss, the REC and other officials are working with APC in the State to deliver all the APC candidates, whether or not they won.
Hence, he asked the INEC Chairman, Prof Yakubu Mahmood to intervene before the said date or there would be more irregularities to be executed by the accused which will be a ridicule to the electoral process in Nigeria.
