Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has pledged to pass on the reins of governance of the State to Owerri zone after completing his second term.

He made this commitment during his meeting with the Imo State Council of Elders at the Government House in Owerri.

Governor Uzodimma, securing his position through re-election in the November 11 governorship election, affirmed his dedication to upholding the Imo Charter of Equity.

Addressing members of Imo State Council of elders, he assured them that, in adherence to the Imo charter of Equity, the next governor would hail from Owerri zone, at the conclusion of his second term.

Expressing his conviction, Uzodimma stated, “I have no doubt that my successor will be produced by the Imo Charter of Equity.

“The next governor will come from Owerri Zone, and thereafter, it will go to Okigwe zone.

“The next governor after me, as long as I remain alive as the governor, will not come from Orlu zone.”

This declaration not only outlines Uzodimma’s commitment to zonal balance in the State, but also sets a clear trajectory for the future political leadership of Imo State.

Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the State Council of Elders and former Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, led the elders in congratulating the governor on his successful re-election.

He urged all gubernatorial candidates who participated in the November 11 contest to acknowledge and respect the outcome of the election, emphasizing that it represents the will of the people of Imo State.

“All candidates of other political parties who contested in the November 11, 2023 Imo gubernatorial election are enjoined by the Council to accept the verdict of the people of Imo State in good faith and in the overall interest and benefit of the State,” declared Eze Cletus Ilomuanya.

Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to the Imo Charter of Equity not only signals a strategic plan for succession but also reinforces the importance of respecting democratic decisions for the collective welfare of the state.
