In recognition of his longstanding philanthropic gestures and humanitarian services to the Mbaise ancient clan, Imo State and Nigeria at large, the Okpu Mbaise Global Association (OMGA), a gender-based socio-cultural organisation, has conferred its prestigious Life Patronship on Barrister Success Obioma Akagburuonye, popularly known as Akaraugo Ndigbo.

The association also secured Akagburuonye’s commitment to provide an official bus for the organisation and establish a Skills Acquisition Centre in partnership with Hope Rising for Imolites Foundation (Olile Anya Di), a non-governmental organisation founded and financed by him.

Akagburuonye made the commitments while responding to requests presented by the association during his investiture as Life Patron at the conference hall of the national headquarters of Hope Rising for Imolites Foundation at Ogbor Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, on Saturday.

The organisation, comprising distinguished daughters of Mbaise extraction, decorated Akagburuonye with the Life Patronship during the ceremony.

According to the Certificate of Investiture presented to him and endorsed by the organisation’s President, Dr. Mrs. Theresa Okere, and Secretary-General, Iyom Ijeoma Ufom, the honour was conferred on him “in recognition of your distinguished service, unwavering support, exemplary character, and commitment to the growth and advancement of this association.”

The certificate further stated: “By this investiture, you are hereby formally appointed and inducted as a PATRON and entrusted with the honour, responsibilities and privileges attached to this esteemed position. Given this 3rd day of October, 2026.”

Earlier, in a presidential address delivered by Okere, the association expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to honour Akagburuonye while he is still alive, stressing its commitment to empowering indigenous women and girls through education, skills acquisition, mentorship and community development.

“Our mission is rooted in the belief that when women are supported, families are strengthened, communities are transformed and the future of Mbaise becomes brighter,” the association stated.

The group described Akagburuonye’s philanthropy, compassionate leadership and concern for the less privileged as values that closely align with the objectives of OMGA.

“Sir, your philanthropy, compassionate leadership and unwavering concern for the less privileged reflect the very values that guide our organisation. Through your generosity and service to humanity, you have given hope to many, opened doors of opportunity and uplifted numerous families,” the association said.

It also commended his consistent support for women and vulnerable persons, describing his philanthropic interventions as an inspiration for the organisation to intensify its efforts towards improving the welfare of women and vulnerable people across Mbaise.

“Today, we proudly welcome you not only as our Life Patron, but as the Father of OMGA—a title that reflects our profound gratitude, respect and affection for you.

“Your leadership will strengthen our vision, and your partnership will help us extend our reach to more women, girls and families across the Mbaise Nation.

“We look forward to working with you to establish an OMGA Centre for Skills Acquisition and Community Support—a lasting legacy that will equip women and young people with practical skills, create opportunities for self-reliance and provide meaningful support to those in need,” the association stated.

The organisation also appealed to Akagburuonye to assist in acquiring a suitable bus to enhance its mobility and ability to execute its programmes and objectives.

While congratulating him on his investiture, the women commended him for believing in OMGA and its members, as well as for deploying his influence and resources towards advancing the welfare of Mbaise people and Nigerians generally.

They prayed God to continue to bless Akagburuonye and his family, enlarge his capacity for service and reward him abundantly for the lives he has touched and the hope he continues to bring to communities across Imo State.

Responding, Akagburuonye thanked the members for the honour and for finding him worthy of serving as their Life Patron.

He commended the association for its vision and initiative, particularly its request for a Skills Acquisition Centre, which he said would be established in collaboration with Hope Rising for Imolites Foundation.

According to him, the skills acquisition programme would commence immediately after the burial ceremonies for his mother, scheduled for November 7, 2026, with the outing service on Sunday, November 8, at 10 a.m. at Noah’s Ark Church Cathedral of Assemblies of God Church, Ogbor Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise.

On the request for a bus, Akagburuonye asked the association to identify and present the cost of a suitable bus of its choice, assuring them that he would take care of the expense.

Akagburuonye, who is aspiring to contest the 2027 Imo State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his political philosophy is centred on empowering people to become self-reliant.

“I am out to teach people how to fish. When I am given power, I will supply them with enough instruments to fish. I will consolidate on Uzodimma’s achievements and make Imo people proud of democratic governance,” he said.

He further applauded the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma, particularly what he described as the administration’s achievements under the 3R and Shared Prosperity agenda.

Akagburuonye also urged members of OMGA to continue to pray for and support the Imo State Government in its efforts to develop the state.
