UNOGMOV Shines at Iri Ji Ngor Okpala, Advocates Civic Awareness and Accountable Leadership

The Udo Na Oganihu Grassroot Movement (UNOGMOV) has reaffirmed its commitment to community development, civic awareness, peace, unity, and accountable leadership following its participation in the 2026 Iri Ji Ngor Okpala Festival held on 10 October 2026 at Umuowa Primary School, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Imo State.

The festival attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, dignitaries, stakeholders, and people from different communities who gathered to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Ngor Okpala. The event featured cultural displays and activities that highlighted the importance of preserving Igbo traditions, promoting unity, and strengthening community bonds.

Members of UNOGMOV participated enthusiastically in the celebration, demonstrating the movement’s support for cultural preservation, community engagement, and initiatives that bring the people of Ngor Okpala together.

UNOGMOV Reaffirms Its Commitment to Civic Awareness

Speaking with the press at the event, the movement’s Spokesperson, Ekeh Prince Micheal Chibuzor (DUNGA), who spoke on behalf of the Founder and Convener, Comrade Ahizi Martins Udochukwu (MLK), said UNOGMOV remained committed to promoting peace, development, responsible leadership, and active citizen participation across Ngor Okpala.

He explained that the movement was established to encourage unity among the people, promote community development, and enlighten citizens about their civic rights and responsibilities.

According to him, UNOGMOV also believes that good governance requires active citizen participation and constructive engagement between the people and their leaders.

He stated that the movement would continue to encourage elected leaders to fulfil their electoral promises while supporting initiatives that contribute positively to the development of Ngor Okpala.

Movement to Begin Civic Education and Sensitisation

The spokesperson further disclosed that UNOGMOV would soon embark on civic education and sensitisation programmes across the communities in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.

The proposed initiative will focus on educating citizens, particularly youths, on their civic rights and responsibilities, the importance of participating in community affairs, and the need to hold public officeholders accountable for their promises and performance.

He emphasised that the movement’s approach was not to promote hostility or unnecessary confrontation but to encourage responsible citizenship, constructive criticism, transparency, and accountability.

He added that UNOGMOV would recognise and commend leaders who demonstrate commitment to the welfare of the people while also raising legitimate concerns where necessary in the interest of good governance and community development.

Commendation for the Founder and Convener

Speaking further, Ekeh Prince Micheal Chibuzor described the Founder and Convener, Comrade Ahizi Martins Udochukwu (MLK), as a visionary and community-minded individual whose commitment to the progress of Ngor Okpala and Imo State continues to inspire the movement.

He noted that although the Convener was unavoidably absent from the festival, his commitment to the ideals of peace, unity, development, and accountable leadership remained unwavering.

The movement also used the occasion to felicitate with the Ngor Okpala Traditional Rulers Council, Community Policing, and the entire good people of Ngor Okpala on the celebration of this year’s Iri Ji festival.

UNOGMOV commended all those who contributed to the success of the celebration and encouraged residents to continue supporting cultural activities that preserve the community’s heritage and promote peaceful coexistence.

A Call for Unity and Collective Development

The movement reiterated that the progress of Ngor Okpala requires collective responsibility, active citizen participation, responsible leadership, and cooperation among communities and stakeholders.

It called on youths, community leaders, traditional institutions, elected representatives, and other stakeholders to work together towards building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Ngor Okpala.

UNOGMOV maintained that its guiding principles remain Unity, Development, and Progress, with a firm belief that sustainable community development can be achieved when citizens are informed, leaders are accountable, and everyone contributes meaningfully to the common good.
