2027 Owerri Zone Senate: Chima Amadi Defies Alleged Plot To Eliminate Him, Vows Never To Quit

..As Campaign Organisation raises alarm, Seeks Police, DSS Immediate Intervention

The battle for the soul of Owerri Senatorial District ahead of the January 16, 2027 National Assembly elections has taken a dramatic turn, as the senatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, PhD, has declared that no amount of threats, intimidation or alleged plots against his life will force him out of the race.

Amadi made the declaration through his Senatorial Campaign Organisation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

He raised a fresh security alarm over what he described as credible intelligence suggesting a possible plot to intimidate, harm or eliminate him in an alleged desperate attempt to frustrate his senatorial ambition.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, Cajetan Duke, JP, issued in Owerri, the campaign organisation called on the Imo State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the alleged threats and put adequate measures in place to guarantee the safety of the APP candidate.

The organisation, which described the development as a disturbing threat to democratic participation, insisted that Amadi’s constitutional right to contest an election must not be compromised by fear, coercion or political desperation.

It recalled that it had earlier, on September 8, 2026, raised concerns over an alleged attempt to militarise Ngor Okpala ahead of the elections, warning that the development could undermine political tolerance, peaceful campaigns and the conduct of credible elections.

However, the campaign organisation expressed concern that the alleged threats had persisted despite its earlier intervention, with fresh information reportedly pointing to a more disturbing dimension of political intimidation.

Although it stopped short of publicly identifying those allegedly behind the reported scheme, the organisation maintained that the information available to it was sufficiently serious to warrant immediate security attention, rather than being dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric.

In a bold message that appeared to underscore the candidate’s determination, the organisation declared that Amadi would not surrender his senatorial ambition to threats, intimidation or any individual or group seeking to determine his political future through coercion.

It maintained that the decision of the APP candidate to contest the Owerri Senatorial seat was a legitimate exercise of his democratic rights, stressing that only the electorate, through a free, fair and credible election, could determine who occupies the Senate seat.

The campaign organisation attributed the alleged hostility to Amadi’s growing political relevance and expanding grassroots acceptance across Owerri Zone, nay Imo State.

According to the statement, “Mazi Gburu-gburu” as fondly called has continued to attract considerable attention and goodwill through sustained community engagement, grassroots mobilisation and a message of purposeful representation.

It identified youths, women, artisans, traders and religious leaders among the various segments of the electorate increasingly engaging with the Mazi Gburu-gburu political movement.

The organisation further observed that the growing demand for credible alternatives in Imo politics had introduced a new dimension to the 2027 contest, with the APP emerging as a platform attracting attention from voters dissatisfied with aspects of the incumbent administration’s policies and performance.

Furthermore, Amadi was described as a prominent figure in the emerging alternative political movement, arguing that his political strength should be tested at the ballot box and not subjected to intimidation or any attempt to undermine his participation in the electoral process.

“We are confident in the strength of his growing public support. We believe that his rising political profile may have unsettled certain interests, but no political ambition or electoral calculation can justify threats to his life or attempts to frustrate his candidacy,” the organisation declared.

Taking its concerns beyond the immediate safety of its principal, the campaign organisation called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political party leaders, traditional rulers, religious institutions, community stakeholders and civil society groups to condemn political violence and work towards a peaceful electoral atmosphere.

They urged the security agencies to conduct a discreet but comprehensive investigation into the reported threats, assess their credibility and extent, and take every lawful step necessary to protect Amadi and other persons who may be exposed to danger.

The organisation also demanded that anyone found, following proper investigation, to be involved in planning or facilitating political violence should be made to face the full consequences of the law.

While appealing to the people of Owerri Zone and Imo State to remain calm and vigilant, the campaign body emphasised that its decision to make the allegations public was not intended to provoke confrontation or encourage political hostility.

Rather, it said, the intervention was a preventive measure aimed at averting any avoidable tragedy and protecting the democratic rights of candidates and voters.

It stressed that its campaign would remain peaceful, issue-based and focused on presenting Amadi’s qualifications, experience, vision and policy agenda to the electorate, irrespective of the alleged pressure.

In a final declaration that has given the 2027 Owerri Senate contest a fresh political dimension, the organisation reiterated that its principal would neither retreat nor abandon his ambition on account of threats to his personal safety.

“Let it be clearly understood that Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi will not abandon his senatorial aspiration because of threats to his life. He remains determined to continue his campaign peacefully, courageously and lawfully.

“Our position is clear: we choose peace over violence, the ballot over intimidation, and democracy over political desperation. Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi will not be intimidated out of the race. The people of Owerri Zone must be allowed to decide, freely and without fear, who represents them in the Senate,” the statement declared.
