The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has expressed shock over the death of literary icon, Prof Chinua Achebe.
In a statement made available to Imo Trumpeta and signed by Ebere Uzoukwa, SA (Print Media), Okorocha , he described Achebe’s demise as a colossal loss to Nigeria and Igbo nation, having contributed eloquently in the education sector and overall nation building through his internationally accepted literary works. Part of the statement reads “
Prof. Achebe’s demise is a colossal loss to Nigeria and Igbo nation having contributed eloquently in the education sector and overall nation building through his internationally accepted literary works, constructive criticism and of course his uncompromising war against social malpractices.
A literary giant with an extra-ordinary intellectual background, Prof. Achebe was no doubt an asset to Nigeria, and his death has created a vacuum in the literary world.
While I sympathize with the members of his family, I, however urge the federal government to immortalized his name as a great Nigerian”
