The planned April 27, 2013 Local Government election in Imo State will go on as scheduled as the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission is bent on holding the polls on the said date ISIEC Chairman, Barr Teddy Akwari made the disclosure recently when a group, Concerned Citizens of Igbo Race (COCIR) paid him a courtesy call at ISIEC headquarters, Owerri.
He said the date remains unchanged, saying for now there is no basis to change the date of the election.
“If there is going to be a change of date for the election, we are going to let the people know. The commission maintains 27th April, 2013 as date for the LG election in Imo State” he said.
The ISIEC Chairman thanked the group for paying him homage, as he told them to call on him anytime they need his assistance.
In his Speech, Rev Omeokwe called on Ndi-Igbo to be united in order that they will no longer be politically marginalized in Nigeria.
The Local Government Election has become a subject of controversy in the state following the declaration of some political parties such as the PDP, to boycott the polls.
