Obulimba Unity Cup comes to a Coloureful
end, as Irete emerge new champs

 

The second edition of the Obulimba Owerri-West Unity Football Competition came to it’s Crescendo on Sunday April 7, at the police Training school field, Umuoma-Nekede.
The final of the football tournament which was powered by Hon. Obulimba Innocent Ekeh (Master Cheff), the Hon. Member representing Owerr-West LGA at the State House of Assembly was heartily attended by notable serving political appointees of the Owelle Rochas Okorocha led “Rescue Mission” Government including the newly appointed Deputy Governor, His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere who represented the Governor at the occasion.
Other dignitaries at the event which was also used to commission the Nekede police station Renovated by Hon. Obulimba, were Hon Stan Dara, member representing Orsu state constituency (chairman of the occassioin), Barr. Lady Nnanna Ugochi Okoro, Commissioner for Community Government, Hon Kenneth Emelu, Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Dr Victor Mere member representing Owerri- Municipal at the State House of Assembly Hon. Prince Anold Nelson, Oweri-West SOLAD, and all the Eze’s of the 18 communities in Owerri-West LGA and their APGA Chieftains.
In his address, Hon Obulimba retreated his desire to serve his people not only in sponsoring  the cup but also by embarking on the renovation of the Nekede police station despite the fact that the structure belongs to the Federal Government because it’s in their home and provides it’s services to the hospitable people of Owerri-West.
Obulimba also stated that among many other projects under the ‘OBULIMBA FOUNDATION’ which houses the Poultry Farm, pet and attack dog breeding as well as the O’ West Security to mention but a few. “It has always been my desire to do-major things that will impact positively to my good people of Owerri-West, the Obulimba Unity Cup will help to give the youths the opportunity to keep, fit as well as get gainfully employed in the world of football”, stated Hon Obulimba.
In his own reaction, the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, Commended Hon Obulimba for his spirited efforts in bringing quality representation to his people adding that their Government is on a Rescue Mission Agenda which be believes will soon reach all the Conners of the state.
He however assured the good people of Owerri-West that their demands will soon be met by the Governor,  Rochas Okorocha.
In the final game, Irete defeated Umualum 4-2 on penalties to cart away the giant trophy thus becoming the second community in Owerri-west to win the Hon. Obulimba Unity Cup which is in it’s second edition.

 

 

Hon. Onyereri Unites Nkwere Communities with Football

 

The Hon. Chudi Onyereri football competition has been described as a unifying factor for all the autonomous communities in Nkwerre Local Government Area.
The tournament which kicked of on March 12 and ended on Easter Monday April 1 was sponsored by the Honourable member representing Nkwerre, Nwangele, Isu and Njaba Local Government Area’s at the Federal House of Representative.
According to the Local Organizing Committee Chairman Chikordi Anele, the championship which was keenly contested by the six autonomous communities in Nkwerre LGA, namely Nkwerre, Owerri-Nkworji, Amaokpara, Eziama Obaire, Umuwala and Umudi, has gone ahead to illustrate the fact that Nkwerre is bonded in unity.
He however thanked Hon. Onyereri for picking out Nkwerre to stage this edition of the unity football tournament that has also enabled the richly talented youths of Nkwerre to show case their skills.
In a separate chart with Imo Trumpeta Engr. Victor Achigbu noted that Hon. Chudi has in a short time proven that he is a trusted representative of his people.
He stated that just last month Hon. Onyereri in continuation of his youth empowerment programme handed out over 50 motorcycles to the youths of his federal constituency. He also carried out a construction of 3 classroom blocks in the 4 LGA’s that make-up his constituency and constructed ICT centre in ST. Augustine’s Grammar school as well as Nwangele LGA.
During the final of the competition which took place at the Owerre-Nkworji Township Stadium, (central primary school), Owerri-Nkworji defeated Eziama Obaire to win the 250,000 naira worth trophy.
In the 3rd place game played earlier before the final game, Amaokpara edged-out Nkwerre 3-0 to emerge as the second runners up.
The grand final was graced by the presence of Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (Enyioha), a PDP Governorship aspirant in Anambra state who incidentally is a good friend of Hon. Chudi Onyereri, also in attendance were Hon Kevin Asota, former TC Chairman Nkwerre LGA, Hon Ugochukwu Emedo, PDP Chairman Owerri-Nkworji ward ii, Mr. Silas Akuba, former chairman Nkwerre LGA and many others.
Presenting the trophy on behalf of the donor who was on a special assignment at Enugu with the Senate President, Senator David Mark, the SSA on Admin to Hon Onyereri, Engr. Victor, thanked the teams and the youths especially for showing a high level of discipline and showcasing quality football adding that next year the tournament will receive a tremendous improvement.

 

 

Eaglets Set for Ghana, Ivory Coast in CAF
U-17 African Championship in Morocco

Nigeria Eaglets has assured their readiness to over come the challenges from Ghana and Ivory Coast in this years CAF African U-17 championship, which begins on Saturday in Morocco.
The Golden Eaglets, who returned from a four-week final training programme at the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence, Qatar on Sunday, departed the shores of Nigeria to Casablanca aboard a Royal Air Marco airplane Wednesday morning and then moved to Marrakech, venue of their Group B matches.
Nigeria, the three-time world champions, last featured at the African U-17 finals in Togo in 2007, which they won, and then followed up with triumph at the FIFA U-17 world cup finals in Korea Republic.
It was also gathered that on Friday, Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination on all the participating teams.
The competition will open on Saturday afternoon with host Morocco taking on Gabon at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, while Tunisia take to the pitch against debutants Botswana immediately after.
Nigeria and Ghana, with Africans most illustrious records in international youths football, will clash in the most anticipated mach of the group phase in Marrakech on Sunday evening, after Cote D’Ivoir and Congo Brazzaville would have done battle at the same venue.
The Eaglets will then play Cote D’Ivoir on April 17 and Congo on April 20 in the group phase.
The Manu Garba boys have not lost any game since the qualifying stage and continued that trend in Qatar was they played 7 friendlies wining all.
