The people of Ohaji have called for the resignation of the Member representing Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Luke Chukwu. The call for his resignation is alleged to have come as a result of his inability to duly represent the interest of the people of the constituency, and the heightening of Ezeship tussle in Obitti autonomous Community where he is reported to be showcasing sectional interest in the Ezeship stool.

Addressing journalists in Owerri after a peaceful protest at the Government House gate, Owerri, one of the stakeholders of Obitti, Mr Ojika Iheanacho disclosed that the community is having Ezeship struggle because of the alleged interference of Hon Luke Chukwu of Umuapu Community in the internal affairs of Obitti, and called on the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to disregard the actions of the daft Honourable Member. He pointed out that the only duly recognized Eze-elect in Obitti is Eze Clifford Chibuzor, who was constitutionally elected by the Community through a plebiscite.

Staging a peaceful protest before Imo state government, the people of Obitti called for freedom and non interference from any corner to allow peace and development reign in the community adding that measures would be taken to resist Chukwu’s interference. The protesters include old and young who carried placards which read “No Imposition from Luke Chukwu”. Another one reads “Luke Chukwu Wants To Mortgage Obitti Autonomous Community. Obitti Ezeship Stool is Rotatory, Not Hereditary”.

Also speaking, Hon Stephen Oleforo, Comrade Jude Onyeowerre, Obinna Odunze, Placigius Ojika, Chief Christian Eziri maintained that Obitti Ezeship stool is rotatory and not hereditary as Hon Luke Chukwu and one Christopher Ohiri have continued to claim

The protesting group said that it would be better for Chukwu to resign than get humiliated out of the House of Assembly through recall process necessitated by lack of confidence the entire Ohaji/Egbema have in him.

It would be recalled that Chukwu has been undergoing terrible moments in the hands of his constituents who have concluded arraignments to recall him. Some community youths had few weeks ago chased him out from a select stakeholders meeting he called at the Imo State Polytechnic premises for lacking the wherewithal to be the eye of Ohaji/Egbema in the State Assembly.

Reacting on the matter, an aide to the Chief Of Staff to the Governor, MR Ikenna Onuoha told the people to calm down as the state government will resolve the matter amicably.
