YSFON For Sports
Development In Imo
Imo State Ministry of Youth and Sports has reiterated its readiness to work harmoniously with the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Imo chapter for the sole purpose of developing the youths and sporting activities in the State,
Making this revelation to Trumpeta on Tuesday in his Office, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hon G N Nwosu described YSFON as a very important agency and tool for developing our youths which according to him falls in line with the ambition of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s youth must work program.
Hon Nwosu noted that YSFON’s closeness to the grass root and general acceptance all over the federation makes it a vital means of reaching the youths and driving home development adding that it is the reason his ministry supports its programs by way of encouragement.
Still speaking, the Perm Sec also took time to praise the Governor for his visionary leadership qualities and creation of youth programs that are still on going to help empower and make them worthy future leaders.
He however revealed that apart from the huge amount released for the Ohaji/Egbema youths the Governor also initiated another skill acquisition program for three months to equip the youths in other to earn a living stating that his ministry is working closely with Industrial Training Fund (ITF), to archive the purpose.
In a related development, Hon Nwose informed that plans are in top gear to ensure that the Imo State contingent for the forthcoming National Youth Games (NYG), in Abuja are well prepared to first qualify from the South-East zone and then have a good outing at the tournament proper.
He also promised that his ministry will not rest in making sure that most of the dilapidated facilities in the stadium community are brought back to their once glorious state especially the Grasshoppers international Handball Stadium that is presently the shadow of itself.
Nwosu then gave kudos to the men and women who have continued to spend their resources in developing our youth at the rural areas mentioning that the synergy between sports and education cannot be over emphasized with activities like the All Primary/Secondary School Athletics Championship in Aboh-Mbaise recently and the on-going Ideato-Nations All Secondary School Football Competition in Ideato-South and Ideato-North LGA’s.

YSFON Commends Okorocha For Re-Appointing Emelu
The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Imo State Chapter, has commended His Excellency the Governor of Imo State Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha (OON), for re-appointing Comrade Kenneth Emelu to serve in his cabinet once again.
In his special commendation for the Rescue Mission General, Mr Ndubuisi Okpara, YSFON Vice-President South-East told Trumpeta that Okorocha is a visionary leader who has proven that indeed, Imo can be better with the numerous monumental, infrastructural and Human developmental projects he has been carrying out since taking over at the Douglas House.
He however was of the opinion that as a good captain, Okorocha has always chosen capable hands as his crew men and women to help in the delivering of dividends of democracy to Imolites which according to him includes Emelu, the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
The ex-international continued by saying that Emelu in his two years tenure achieved what many Commissioners put together failed to achieve such as breaking over 25-years of trophy less mediocrity and winning five trophies with Heartland fc (back-to-back Federation and Charity cup as well as the Super-Four trophy), winning the African Hockey Club Championship with Heartland flickers for a record six times among many other sporting achievements recorded under his tenure and the Youth Empowerment programs designed to help make our youths industrious, self-reliant and future leaders of tomorrow.
He further added that he has no doubt in his mind that with Emelu’s return and if handed the Ministry of Youth and Sports portfolio, the youths of Imo and sports will continue to enjoy the good work he started.
