Ominous signs of impending doom resurfaced in Imo State this week when a frightening snake swallowed another snake at Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo Ohaji, in Ohaji/Egbema LGA.
It would be recalled that before the famous “Otokoto crisis” that engulfed the state in 1996, similar “snake swallowing snake” incidents occurred at three designated spots in the state before the upheavals that led to the arrests of ritual killers and the consequent mob action. The mob action caused civil unrest and mass destruction of property and building belonging to suspected ritualists and human parts dealers.
The Imo State Polytechnic Community and host towns were shocked on Wednesday when those who reported to work noticed the scene where a snake had already swallowed another and became motionless. Workers who could not face the scene reported the incident to the management. The incident happened at the poultry section of the Polytechnic Community, Umuagwo.

However, some elders of the host Umuagwo town when informed revealed that it is an abomination and a forbidden act in their land, adding that it might not be unconnected with the undesired plot by the Imo state government and management of the Institution to relocate vital courses from the main campus at Umuagwo Ohaji. One of the kindred heads (names withheld) told our reporter at the scene of the incident that the development portends danger and the state government should reconsider its activities in the Institution.
Meanwhile, fear has gripped staff and management of the school over the development. Some of the workers incharge of the poultry section are scared to resume work at the place.
