Apparently worried by poor representation and non commitment to constituency related matters being exhibited by the member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon Gerald Ironna, stakeholders of the area have given him 30 days to render a comprehensive account of his stewardship or face recall.
The resolution and need for Ironna to justify why he should be the representative of the Federal constituency till 2015 was part of the major decision reached by the Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal constituency leadership forum at a meeting held at the Newton Hotel, Owerri.
According to the resolution endorsed by the leaders and made available to Trumpeta, the Federal constituency observed that Ironna has not been forthcoming with respect to effective representation in the House of Representatives. According to the group “We noted that Hon Ironna has not moved any motion, sponsored any bill in the House of Representative to promote and protect the interest or our Federal constituency since his election and inauguration in June 2011 and this has effectively denied our reaping the expected dividends of democracy”
The stakeholders regretted “that as the only oil producing Federal Constituency in Imo State our representative in the National Assembly has failed or has been unable to adequately defend our interest as an oil producing constituency and this is evidenced by the fact that under his watch over 80% (Eighty per cent) of projects emanating from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) meant for the development of our Federal Constituency, has been sited outside our Federal Constituency.
“Conscious of the apparent lack of interest in employing his exalted office to reposition the PDP in the Federal Constituency and win back the disenchanted members of the party to the PDP fold and thus create a formidable force to prepare for major political activities, especially the next election come 2015.
“Strongly tempted to believe that urgent steps need to be taken to redeem our collective image and re-focus our Federal Constituency at both the National and Local levels before the situation becomes irredeemable.
“Disappointed that Hon. Irona has not found it necessary to call any leadership meeting of the Federal Constituency for briefing on his activities in the House of Representatives, outside the annual ritual of handing out pittances at Christmas periods, as though the electorates are now his subjects.
Accordingly, the Leadership Forum of the Federal Constituency therefore resolved as follows:
“To give Hon. Gerald A. Irona 30 days to convene a meeting of the Federal Constituency where he will give a comprehensive account of his stewardship and justify why he should still remain our representative till 2015.
“That failing to do so or/and to provide a satisfactory evidence of an account of his stewardship or/and a justification for his continued stay in office as the member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Ogut/Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, we shall at the expiration of the 30 days notice take steps to commence the process for his recall from the National Assembly.
On these accounts, the leadership mandated him to an all embracing constituency briefing for purposes of giving account of his stewardship, failing to do so, the people of Ohaji/Egbema will not hesitate to commence recall process steps.
The leaders went further to pass vote of confidence on President Jonathan and backed his second tenure aspiration come 2015.
Among the leader of the federal constituency who attended the event include Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah, Chief Gideon Nwaeze, Hon Mbadiwe Declan Emelumba, Hon Eugene Dibiagwu, Barr Peter Mgbemwelu and Chief F.I Ogbuka.
