The sign of what to aspect in Imo state is folding as the 2015 election approach fast. To the shock of many and against freedom of speech and Association, Hoodlums suspected to be hired political thugs yesterday at the Sam Mbakwe cargo International Airport, Owerri tore down all the decorations and pictures of President Goodluck Jonathan pasted on the walls and fences of the Airport, including those at the Presidential lounge, erected by PDP members.
On lookers were shocked when these hoodlums under the directive of an alleged Government official, (names withheld) destroyed all the decorations and tore down President Jonathan’s posters at the Airport.
However, the party thugs were lucky to have escaped before the security men around could be alerted of the destructions.
When our reporter visited the scene, the destroyed pictures of President Goodluck Jonathan were seen scattered all over the place.
The President is billed to visit Imo State on Saturday February 22 and members of his political party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State are feverishly awaiting the arrival of their Leader, with decorations and other preparations in top gear.
However, Imo State is not under the Leadership of PDP as its Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has joined the opposition All Progressive Congress APC after winning the election under All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
The state Government has approved the application of the Imo PDP to use the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri as venue of the president’s visit, even as Okorocha said Jonathan’s visit to Imo is of no consequence since there is no single Federal project to be commissioned by him
When President Goodluck Jonathan visited APC controlled states of Sokoto and Kano, their Governor could not show up to receive the president at the Airport.
Jonathan’s visits to Ekiti, Lagos, Osun and Oyo states a few days ago saw only the Deputy Governors of the states welcoming the president.
All eyes are now fixed on Imo state for the Saturday visit to see the reception the state Governor will accord him.
