The grand finale of the maiden edition of Chief Emma Okewulonu’s Unity Football Competition will on Sunday March 9 take place at the Ihitte-Uboma Sports Stadium, Isinweke as the donor Chief Emma Okewulonu (Ikeoha Obowo) has mapped out over N1m for the redemption of prizes.
According to a release from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, Barr Arinze, the event which will mark the end of a seven Month long championship which kicked-off from Okenaloho Cenral School on September 2013 will see the third place match between Ikpe-Nsu (Ehime-Mbano) and Amainyi (Ihitte-Uboma) played at about 1pm before the final game between Ehume (Obowo) and Atonerim (Ihitte-Uboma) to determine the true champion of Okigwe-South.
Speaking to Trumpeta sports desk, the coordinator of the competition Hon Basil Okewulonu informed that the eventual winner of the final will go home with a whooping sum of N200, 000 while the 1st runner-up pockets N150, 000 and the second runner-up N100, 000 as brand new jersey’s where given to the four finalists outside the initial one’s to all the 31 Communities in other to make them look smart and neat.
He further stated that the competition has been one of the numerous empowerment programs the Ikeoha Foundation has been carrying out to help fish out footballing talents in Okigwe-South as well as to help curb social vices in the area adding that they will be individual prizes of N50, 000 to the most valuable player, top scorer, best goalkeeper and the fair play team (the most discipline team in the games).
Apart from the unity football competition sponsored by Ikeoha, plans are already in top gear to form a football club (Chief Emma Okwulonu football Club) that will compete in the fourth coming Imo State League later this year as most of the players specially selected during the course of the championship will form the fulcrum of the team.

As the 2013/14 Nigeria Professional football League (NPFL) kicks-off this weekend, Heartland Football Club of Owerri will on Sunday start their campaign with a home game against Dolphins of Port Harcourt at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri by 5: 15pm
The Naze Millionaires who were recently paid 40% of their last season’s sign-on fees by the State Government will attempt to recapture their lost glories after a dismal outing last season. Boosted with the new salary enhancement package adopted by the clubs management which has already been sanctioned by League Management Company LMC for all the elite clubs, Dolphins will surely have no hiding place when they come visiting.
The match which will be live on a cable network will commence by 5:15pm heralding a new trend in the Nigerian league that has experienced certain reforms such as the introduction of Friday game the will see Sunshine Stars of Akure entertaining Enyimba International in Ijebu-Ode this evening.
Meanwhile, reports emanating from the camp of the former Federation Cup Champions indicates that the new gaffer Klechi ‘Caterpillar’ Emetole will surely be ringing some changes as only players who are inform will be used.
It however still uncertain if the management will be unveiling their new acquisitions before the encounter with Dolphins as the darling fans are ready for life without Ikechukwu Ibenegbu (Mosquito) since after four years.

It was all fun and joy for last year’s to three communities of Owerr-West Champion of Champions Unity Football Competition as they were rewarded for outstanding performance in last year’s competition.
In a brief ceremony which took place at the Police Training School field, Umuoma Nekede along Ihiagwa road, the donor of the cup and member representing Owerri-West State constituency at the Imo House of Assembly, Hon Innocent Obulimba Ekeh (Master Chef) stated that having run the competition for about three years, lots of achievements have been recorded adding that they are now in the business point of football.
He further stated that in two years the tournament has produced about 12 quality talents that are already making waves in Europe and Nationally with deferent club sides.
He However promised never to relent in the empowerment of Owerri-West youths as he later received the trophy back from Irete (2013 Champions) while rewarding them with the sum of N200, 000.
Umualum and Amakohia-Ubi also received N150, 000 and N70, 000 for placing second and third respectively while Johnson Ofoma (Umualum), Okenwa Emeka (Irete), Ajoku Chidiebere (Umualum) and Amakohia-Ubi all got N10, 000 each for emerging best goalkeeper, top scorer, best player and most disciplined team of last year’s championship.
Meanwhile, in this year’s edition that is already in its quarter-final stage, Umuanunu who qualified as best losers pummeled Ndegwu community 5 1 at the PTS ground to book a place in the semi-final as other ¼ final games will saw Eziobodo take on Obinze on Thursday while today it will be Ohii trading tackles with Umudibia and Ofurola up against Umualum in the last game on Sunday.
The prize redemption ceremony/official kick-off of the 2014 edition was well attended by Owerri-West citizens including Hon Victor Onyewuchi (IBC Board member) and Chief Okey Mperi (Sports Council board member) who both attested to quality and good representation of Hon Obulimba for the hospitable people of Owerri-West since his election into the House.
