President, Pan Africa Parliament and front-line PDP Governorship Aspirant in Imo State, Rt Hon Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi, at the weekend, kicked started his sensitization/consultation tour to PDP stakeholders in the State on a flying start, with a visit to Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.
Hon Amadi who led an army of his supporters to the oil rich LGA, arrived Central School,Umuagwo, venue of the event in style where he solicited for strategic partnership with the people of Ohaji/Egbema geared towards improving the living conditions of the people.
Speaking to a tumultuous crowd of PDP leaders, ward, local Government party executives and members that stormed the venue of the event and witnessed by thousands of the local populace in the area, Hon Amadi took his time to explain why he decided to run for the Imo governorship race and at the same time highlight why he is the best among litany of aspirants eying Douglas House, Owerri in 2015.
He said there is need for partnership with the people, stressing that such partnership will lead to immense benefits for Ohaji/Egbema which will enhance their God given endowments. He identified the enormous natural resources, an arable land fertile for food production in Ohaji/Egbema as the key to industrialize the area and Imo State.
He described the people as forthright and straight forward and the engine room of the State, triple factors he said, make the people special and an integral component in his desire to transform Imo State when elected Governor in 2015.
Hon Amadi added that the partnership he proposes with the people of Ohaji/Egbema will lead to unleashing the resources of the people that will be of huge benefit to them and at the same time, crucial to the development of the State.
He described the area as the food basket of the State, stressing that he will introduce effective measures that will lead to commercializing and localizing food production for their benefit and for the people of Imo State, assuring oil producing communities in the area that attention will be given to them as they will be huge benefactors in the partnership he seeks with them.
The Imo PDP Governorship major contender reminded the people of his strong historical ties with the people of Ohaji/Egbema LGA.
Hear him “My Grandfather lived amongst you and worked with you people many years ago and died here in 1949. My late father, Eugene Amadi was a teacher here and taught at Ohaji Technical School many years ago. So, you can see I am part of you. You can see I m related to you people. I am a golden child, a child of destiny. This is why I decided to kick start this sensitization/ consultation tour here in Ohaji/Egbema because I have long historical ties with you”.
On his vision for the people of Imo State, the three time federal lawmaker representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, said he has the vision, contacts and connections to make Imo State prosper and progress, adding that he has outlined an Article of Faith that will guarantee gainful employment that will bring self reliance, create adequate opportunities for small and medium businesses to thrive, revive ailing industries and tackle poverty, diseases and hunger.
He said his administration when elected will give utmost priority to education, describing claims of free education by the present administration as a ruse and deceit. Hon Amadi took time to explain that education can only be meaningful to the people when quality of schools is restored and standards are seriously improved.
He spoke on the gains of collective leadership and why the people of Imo State should not elect a leader who lacks leadership qualities and ill- prepared due to little or no education, stressing that leadership is a serious task that is not meant for those with poor educational background and those who lack the quality to lead.
He told the people of Ohaji/Egbema “ We do not need to elect an accidental Governor, we do not need a Governor we do not know his educational background, his antecedents and his origin. We need a governor that understands what is Due Process and appreciate standards. I am a firm believer in the Imo Agenda and development of the State is my priority”.
He assured PDP members in the area that gone are the days they are forgotten after aiding one’s ascension to an elective office, assuring that he will strive to ensure their betterment because he is always a committed party member. He said he has always protected the party’s interest and is among those that has remained loyal at all times and never disobeyed party orders and instructions.
Earlier in his speech, former speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt .Hon Bethel Nnaemeka Maduagwu disclosed that while all aspirants from Owerri Zone are qualified for the job of Imo governor, Hon Bethel Amadi remains the best among them
He stated that among the aspirants vying for Imo governorship contest, Hon Amadi ranks above, citing his leadership qualities and positive political antecedents as yardstick to measure and assess his capacity to govern the State.
He said “Hon Amadi is the best for the job. Time has come we elect those with integrity. We need those with integrity. Bethel Amadi represents integrity and humility. He has the pedigree and for the fact that he heads the African Parliament shows he has the leadership qualities to govern Imo State effectively
In his remarks, a PDP leader from Okigwe zone, High Chief Max Ikokwu, strongly advocated the need why Owerri Zone ought to produce the next governor of the State. He paid glowing tributes to Hon Amadi, saying he is very qualified to govern the State.
Other party leaders gave eloquent testimonies of the three time Federal lawmaker describing him as a rare gem who has undergone both political and leadership tutelage to provide responsive and responsible leadership for the people of Imo State when elected Governor.
Among those in attendance at the event include LGA and Ward executives in the 12 local wards in Ohaji/Egbema, former Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Nnameka Maduagwu, former House of Assembly member representing Isu LGA, Barr. C.N.C Onuoha, former Mayor of Owerri, CDB Williams, former Imo PDP Interim Chairman, Hon Anokwa, former members of the House of Representatives in the area, party chieftains and men and women from various walks of life etc.
