Startling revelations have emerged that Owerri, theImoStatecapital has been invaded by drug dealers and peddlers.

It was gathered that the dealers and peddlers have found a safe haven in Ikenegbu extension where they perpetrate their illicit activities.

This revelation is contained in a letter by Citizen Ikenna Samuelson, a social crusader and Media aide to the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly who in a letter to the Imo State Commissioner of Police dated 30th July, 2012, said that there is absolute abuse of hard drugs, particularly Indian hemp, cocaine, heroine and other related drugs at Ikenegbu layout extension.

The letter which was copied to the Imo State Governor, Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Imo State Director, National Drugs, Law and Enforcement Agency and Force Headquarters, Abuja, stated that young boys and men between the ages of 16 and 45 years old openly smoke and inject these drugs along the streets of Ikenegbu without caring about the consequences of their actions

Part of the letter reads ‘it is symbolic to report to you that there are little children (so many of them) who are growing up in Ikenegbu layout and who are daily watching these irresponsible activities go on. Naturally, these children will think that it is a way of life and are 95% likely to take to such habits’.

The letter continued ‘Again, in Ikenegbu layout extension, there are so many drinking joints where these hard drugs are being openly taken. Conversely, if something more drastic is not done to curb hard drug menace, our society will continue to pay for the consequences

Samuelson accused one Mr. Fuji, a young man of about 30 years of peddling hard drugs in Ikenengbu extension, stating that ‘ because of this unwholesome activities of this notorious fellow, young boys are daily smoking Indian hemp and other related hard drugs’

He lamented that those who indulge in the act of taking hard drugs usually engage themselves in criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, handset snatching, burglary, initiation into cult activities, male and female prostitution and other violent activities.
