Customers and staff of an Owerri based hotel (Kelvic Suite) on Concorde Road watched with astonishment as a member of the Imo State House Assembly, threw caution to the wind when he attacked a man at the bar of the hotel.
The victim, a middle-aged man (names withheld) in the process was said to have suffered minor injuries and battered face no thanks to the lawmaker turned pugilist.
Trumpeta observed that trouble started when the fair skinned lawmaker who cross carpeted from his original party that gave him ticket and secured victory for him in 2011, to another party for principal office position before moving to his new party, spotted his victim in the bar of the hotel to watch the epic encounter between Argentina and Holland.
After hurling abusive verbal missiles on the fellow who the lawmaker accused of certain acts bothering on party infidelity, the House Member later apologized and requested the fellow to forget the matter admitting he over reacted.
However, the personal aide to the lawmaker caused further problems when he mistakenly gave the sum of N5,000 to the victim instead of the actual person he was directed to offer the money to at the bar. On discovering that the sum of N5,000 went into the wrong hands of his perceived enemy who he had earlier lashed for unknown reasons, the legislator from Okigwe zone returned to the hotel premises to give the young man a raw deal. Immediately, after he came, the stammering lawmaker was said to have used “Mike Tyson” tactics to attack the young man kicking him severally in the face.
Apparently confused at the conduct of the lawmaker, the defenseless victim remained calm as the House of Assembly member said to be incharge of speaking the voice of the lawmakers descended further slaps and on his victim.
The matter would have turned a free-for-all but for the hotel staffers who rushed to save the situation and asked the victim to relax.
Trumpeta learnt that the victim has reported at the police station to make his complain against the lawmaker official but was allegedly asked to provide a certain amount of money by the security men he met on desk for the purposes of “opening a file” for the case.
Efforts to reach the concerned lawmaker proved abortive. Even a text message forwarded to his phone inbox remained unattended before press time.
