The uncertainly surrounding the continued stay of Chief Martin Agbaso in the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, is shaking the foundation of the party in Imo State.
Reports are rife that Agbaso is on his way back to PDP after top shots of the party paid him a visit on Monday evening where he was requested to rejoin the PDP he was a foundation member.
Agbaso, who told the senator representing Orlu zone, Hope Uzodimma and state PDP chairman, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie who led the delegation to expect his response upper week, can be said to be the state leader of the party and in charge of the machinery.
Trumpeta learnt that the reported meeting between Agbaso and PDP Chieftains sent shivers down the spines of APGA members loyal to the Emekuku born politician. Affected more are seekers of elective positions in APGA who are hoping to secure chances through Agbaso’s influence in the party.
It was learnt that the news came as a rude shock to most adherents of Agbaso especially office seekers who seem to be at cross roads with ambitions. The entry of Capt Emma Ihenacho was said to have polarized the party with members attaching themselves to different camps. The involvement of Ihenacho was also said to be responsible for the dissolution of the state EXCO of the party.
However, authoritative sources revealed that Agbaso may return to PDP but will keep his APGA structures to facilitate the emergence of his preferred candidates in APGA.
Most APGA members holding positions in the party and those riding on his back to run for election in 2015 are said to be brainstorming on the survival strategies outside Agbaso should be eventually rejoin PDP.
Meanwhile, it is jubilation galore in Ihenacho’s camp when news filtered in that PDP came to lure Agbaso. Only few days ago, some suspected hired thugs protested at the residence of Agbaso.
Some of Ihenacho’s lieutenants who spoke to Trumpeta disclosed that it was a welcome development as the coast is now clearer for the Oil and Gas magnate to grab the APGA guber ticket.
Trumpeta further gathered that PDP is dangling a carrot to Agbaso to join the party. The carrot is the senate ticket of the party. It was gathered that former Anambra governor, Peter Obi is in the picture as the deal has been arranged and sealed in Abuja waiting for delivery which Uzodimma and Anyaehie came to undertake.
On joining PDP, Agbaso will be allowed to have the structure to ensure he emerges PDP candidate for senate.
What may have prompted the fresh move is to strengthen PDP in Imo by bringing in Agbaso with the senate ticket.
