Imo LGA Election Suffers Setback Govt Running Foul Of Law, Says PDP As Opposition Threatens Boycott Of Polls

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State has come hard on the Imo State government over its attempt to organize LGA elections on January 30th 2015.
After several postponements, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC announced and release guidelines for conduct of the primaries.
No sooner than the regulation was released that the PDP and other opposition parties kicked against it.
According to the new PDP spokesman, Hon Kizito Onuoha, the decision to undertake the exercise is ultra vires since the matter is still in court and next hearing was fixed for the same next year.
“The Imo state government is attempting to run foul of the law again by mentioning conduct of LGA elections in Imo. The matter is still in court and it would amount to contempt and disregard to rule of law and course of justice for the pending suit to be ignored when judgment has not been delivered”, Onuoha stated.
The proposed local government election in Imo is now generating a lot of ripples in the state.
Barely 24 hours after a release of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) guidelines for the proposed election, the opposition group have began to raise eyebrows and are now threatening a boycott.
According to the aggrieved group mainly PDP chieftains, the release has sparked a lot of controversies in Imo because Governor Rochas Okorocha and his Rescue Mission team want to use tricks to consolidate power, “Okorocha has secretly positioned his men to succeed them selves as Executive chairmen of LGAs” Bar Akolisa declared.
The chairman of ISIEC Hon Bar. Amaechi Nwoha has insisted that the election to produce the council executives must surely take place on January 31st 2015, adding that the LGA elections is a rescheduled one, therefore it is mandatory and compulsory that every party should partake in the election as no excuse will be accepted again from any party.
